Real

Family Time 1: Real

Pray and Share: Can you touch the air you breathe? How do you know the air is real?

You cannot see the air that is all around you, but you can see its effect. It fills your lungs each time that you breathe. Just like the air, God is also all around you. You cannot see Him either, but you can see His effect. We cannot see the air, but we know it is there. We exist because of it. We cannot see God, but we know He is there. We exist because of God and His truth. Just because we cannot see something, does not mean that it does not exist. There are other ways to know something exists other than from our eyesight. We have four other senses: touch, smell, sound, and taste. These also collect information. If the air blows and becomes a wind, you can hear it or you can feel the wind on your face. You can see the wind move your hair or blow the trees. Those are some of the physical ways that you can know that air exists. And there are the scientists. The scientists act as a witness and explain the make-up of air and verify that it exists. They also write books to pass their understanding on to others. Your family is on a quest to discover if truth exists and you begin by asking—is there a source of truth? For many, God would be considered a source of truth. But just like air, you cannot see God, so how do you know that God is real? God is spiritual. Just like physical senses can be used to detect air, spiritually there are ways to understand that God is real. There are spiritual senses such as faith, hope and love among others. There are also spiritual witnesses that explain God to you. They are called Christians. And there is a spiritual book, the Holy Bible, which is inspired by God but written by God’s witnesses to explain God and His truth to us.

To begin this journey for truth, consider where God’s witnesses tell you to begin.

For we walk by faith, not by sight. 2 Corinthians 5:7

This quote is from the Holy Bible, which is a spiritual book that explains God. The passage is talking about spiritual things, such as God, that you cannot see. It is explaining that you know God is real by faith. Faith. Hmmm. But what is faith?

Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. Hebrews 11:1

According to the Bible, faith is your personal conviction or surety that your belief is true. Faith is a spiritual sense. It is just one way to know God is real.

Wrap it up: To find truth, you begin by accepting God is real. Share with your family if you think God is real. If you believe God is real, what do you know about Him so far?

Closing Prayer: Pray for the faith to know God is real.
