Better Than You Could Imagine - Ellie Perry

Better Than You Could Imagine

For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God. 15 The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by Him we cry, “Abba, Father.” Romans 8:14-15

The word adoption is used only five times in the bible (I apologize in advance because I'm going to be using it quite a bit in this blog), yet it has great significance for anyone who has given their life to Christ. For me, that word not only describes my spiritual relationship with God but also my personal relationship with my family. I was adopted at three months old from South America and am blessed to be brought up in a Christ-centered household. I remember being little and being taught in Sunday school that we are adopted into the Kingdom of Heaven. That we have a heavenly Father who loves us more than we can understand. Now, being only a kid, I bet you imagine this information going in one ear and out the other, but you’d be surprised how much kids remember. I already had a good grasp on what the word adoption meant, but understanding it from a spiritual standpoint is something much sweeter.

Adoption is not necessarily one being moved into another one’s family. It’s being welcomed with open arms into an unfamiliar situation, town, state, community, etc. It’s a family group that knows nothing about you and invites you into their home. It’s older women offering you Biblical wisdom. It’s unconditional love from your peers when you work outside in the blazing heat and are dripping sweat.

The Fellowship has easily put me into the best community I have ever experienced. Having people with who you can be fully transparent without fear of judgment, being held accountable, getting to experience hard things, and most of all trusting in the Lord for what tomorrow may bring. Being surrounded by people who are no different than I, pushing each other to know and love Christ better is what the Fellowship means to me!

We are all adopted into families, friend groups, churches, and communities. Maybe it’s for a short season or the rest of your life. Either way, I encourage you to love those who God has put into your life at this moment. When the time comes where you feel like an orphan, remember the one who adopted you first, the one we cry out “Abba, Father,” the one who loves you unconditionally!
