Obedience. – Jonny Van Ommering

Obedience. A couple weeks ago I heard a pastor say in his sermon, “If we make the fruit of obedience our fundamental motivation for obedience, we will constantly run into problems”.  The FELLOWSHIP has made this more evident than I ever realized. We are raised thinking obedience takes place to either avoid punishment or bring about prosperity. However, God makes it very clear that obedience results from a faith and trust in him. When we base our obedience on the faith we have in the Lord it makes jobs like tossing hay bales or assisting guests an experience you look forward to. Not because of the task itself, but because of the joy that comes from true obedience.

When you are serving obediently out of faith to the Lord’s plan, it truly makes you “Love Your Job”. The FELLOWSHIP gives you as a follower of Christ an opportunity to take a different perspective on the things you thought you knew so much about. Whether it be obedience or anything else you thought you knew prior, when your job is to serve others 24/7, those truth’s you’ve been taught throughout your life become a reality. And it is so cool seeing God work through those truth’s each and every day you’re at The Ranch.

As 1 Corinthians 13:11 states, “When I was a child I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I gave up childish ways”. Sky Ranch has been for me, a place where those childish ways have begun to fade away. Especially with obedience, but also in other areas where I allowed immaturity to prosper. Being that these childish ways dissipate through growth, there are growing pains that take place along the way. However, within the FELLOWSHIP you are surrounded by 13 other God-fearing believers who are there to encourage and motivate you the entire way. It truly is a beautiful thing seeing a community of believers unite with a common mindset to serve the Lord with everything they got.

Cheers,
