My Friends on Film - Hannah Plemons

“So, what is your job again?”

A very classic question whenever I leave the Ranch for a weekend to see friends, go to a wedding or spend some time at home. This typical question has anything but a typical answer. How can I boil down all that this year-long program is to answer my inquisitive friends' questions?

I could attempt to describe the warmth of a Friday night as we’re finishing up retreat arrivals and backing up trailers to signify that the night is nearly over. Or I could illustrate the wacky fun of teaching an outdoor education class to 5th graders alongside a fellow Fellow! Or how about a depiction of the countless trash runs, “on zip” radio calls from facilitating activities, and chopping wood?

While I could go on and on about the myriad of responsibilities and opportunities that come along with being a Fellow, it is all a dull shadow compared to the eternal work that the Lord has so clearly done in my life and my other fourteen closest friends of this year.

The Lord is my chosen portion and my cup; you hold my lot. The lines have fallen for me in pleasant places; indeed, I have a beautiful inheritance” Psalm 16:5-6

Looking back on the past eight months of my life, I can’t help but sing that the Lord truly has given me a beautiful inheritance and has put such pleasant boundary lines in my life. The most clear boundary line I can see is the gift of the Fellowship! It has provided me with friendships that are deeply rooted in the gospel, a place that encourages me towards spiritual disciplines (and actually holds me accountable in them), and a work environment that still leaves me asking every day, “what is my job again”? All because it is so growing, fun, dynamic, and sanctifying! Soli Deo Gloria!
