Special Activities at Sky Ranch Colorado Leadership Camps!

The following special activities are made available to campers during their stay at Sky Ranch Ute Trail, weather permitting. Campers are always welcome to opt out of participating in any camp activity. Parents that do not wish for their camper to participate in any activity may inform Sky Ranch before camper arrival by emailing GuestServices@SkyRanch.org and informing their camper.

All camp activity staff are at least 18 years old and trained in accordance with industry and Colorado state standards. All camp activity staff are CPR and First Aid certified. Proper staff to camper ratios will be met or exceeded at each activity.

Safety briefings will be provided to campers prior to participation at each staffed activity. Campers must follow instructions of activity staff while participating. Activity equipment is only used in the specified areas and is stored in a locked area when not in use. No access will be permitted to activity areas when the activity staff is not present and on duty. Alpine Swing                              

  • Requires closed-toe shoes
  • Requires fitting into appropriately sized harness and helmet provided
  • Requires shoulder length hair or longer to be secured back with a hair tie
  • Participants briefly climb an a-frame ladder to connect to and disconnect from the swing cable
  • Those with heart or back problems should not participate
  • Other campers contribute to this activity by pulling together on a rope to help the participant to their desired swing height                

Ropes Course, Power Pole, and Climbing Wall

  • Requires closed-toe shoes
  • Requires fitting into appropriately sized harness provided                          
  • Requires shoulder length hair or longer to be secured back with a hair tie
  • Participants climb a tall pole while conneccted to a safety rope
  • Zipline weight limit: 250 lbs.
  • Participants climb and step across obstacles at height while connected to a safety rope
  • Those with heart or back problems should not participate

Target Sports- Archery, Hatchets, Sling shots, Rifelry                           

  • Requires closed-toe shoes
  • Requires following range safety commands in a controlled manner
  • Range boundaries are clearly marked                           
  • Observers remain at least 10 ft behind the firing line
ARCHERY
  • Requires arm guard protection provided
  • Utilizes traditional round targets and 3D targets that mimic stationary game animals 
HATCHETS & SLINGSHOTS
  • Requires eye wear protection provided
  • Requires following range safety commands in a controlled manner
RIFELRY
  • Requires eye wear and hearing protection provided
  • Utilizes provided .22 caliber rimfire, single-shot, bolt-action rifles only
  • No more than 5 cartridges are given at a time to participants at the firing line
  • Between participants, rifle chambers are unloaded with action open and muzzles pointed in a safe direction down range

Kayaking                             

  • Activity hosted at Lake San Cristobal, 30 minutes south of Sky Ranch Ute Trail
  • Requires appropriately sized United States Coast Guard approved lifejacket provided
  • Requires stepping into lake water when entering and exiting kayak
  • Requires demonstration of basic kayak use maneuvers
